You may have heard: All courses at MLHS are taught from this “Christian Worldview” perspective. But what exactly does that mean? It means that our faculty teaches God’s truth found in the Bible. We look at every subject in school – and every topic in life – through God’s perspective. A Christian Worldview explains reality and how to live through the lens of the Bible.
What this requires is a sense of humility. Rather than approaching any subject with our point of view as the starting point, we ask ourselves, “what does God have to say about this topic?” That’s hard to do in today’s culture and age of “information”, or sadly, “misinformation.”
Even if the answer is not explicitly discussed or found in the Bible, chances are very good that Christian leaders have expounded upon the topic and have tied their thinking back to the Bible, cross-referencing multiple biblical books, chapters and verses. This follows an essential Lutheran tenet of allowing scripture to interpret scripture, i.e. sola scriptura (Scripture alone).
Does that mean Lutherans reject something like evolution? Quite simply, yes. Macro-evolution (one species turning into another over millions of years) is an unproven theory – but our culture has erroneously accepted it as “fact” due to repetition and a desire by sinful man to reject God. We believe God, the perfect Creator, made the heavens and the earth as it is stated in the book of Genesis. That’s what we teach at our school – because that’s what you’ll find in the Bible. Do we teach evolution as one of the scientific theories, like the “Big Bang” and others, and then expose and explain the fallacies of each of them? Absolutely! It helps students defend their faith and understand why we believe what we do.
