Dr. Philip Stieg is the Margaret and Robert J. Hariri Professor of Neurological Surgery and Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives at Weill Cornell Medical College and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief of New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Stieg’s expertise is in cerebrovascular disorders, skull base surgery, and traumatic brain injury. He is also a widely published author and internationally known lecturer, and has been consistently named one of the nation’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly. Another area he promotes his field is as the host of the podcast “This Is Your Brain With Dr. Phil Stieg.” In each episode, Dr. Stieg presents a view into how the brain works, what can go wrong, and what we know about how to fix it. He gives life-saving information and timely advice on how to live a brain-healthy life.

It’s easy to praise an athlete for their wins, but academic students are harder to see for their accomplishments because tests and achievements don’t happen on a field or court. The Honors Academy at Milwaukee Lutheran High School is a space where students can be recognized and welcomed by their peers. The Honors Academy had 25 students for the 2021-22 school year. Students need a 3.75 or higher grade point average to be in the Academy. During the Honors Academy classes, they discuss the best ways to search for colleges and apply for grants, scholarships, and financial aid. They also talk about current events and social topics. Students join the Honors Academy to focus on their goals and challenge their thinking by surrounding themselves with the top of the top in the school. An in-depth approach to application and financial aid is essential for many students because their family hasn’t gone through this process before. Several students are the first generation in their families to go to college 

Milwaukee Lutheran’s touring band, along with chaperones, traveled to Florida in the spring for their first band tour since prior to 2020, and it was worth the wait. The band participated in the Music and Art of Foley Workshop at Universal Studios. Students created an entire scene of Despicable Me, including music, voice overs,  and sound effects. They participated in Disney’s Soundscapes Workshop where band members learned new music in less than three hours and recorded the soundtrack to a scene from the movie Tangled. The students also got to enjoy the parks at Universal Studios and Disney World. The band tour was an adventure filled with new opportunities for students to learn and grow. The underclassmen are looking forward to another band tour in 2024!

On September 17^th, three Milwaukee Lutheran High School students were invited to attend the annual IBAW (Independent Business Association of Wisconsin) Manufacturing Summit with Free Enterprise Director Shannon Whitworth and Career Academy Director Evan Janousky.  We were able to sit at an exclusive, reserved table, making MLHS one of only two schools in attendance for this special experience.
